About St Gabriel's

St Gabriel’s School for Hearing Impaired Children, located in Castle Hill, has been helping hearing impaired children since 1922.

The school has earned a reputation, both nationally and internationally, as an innovative educational centre and continues to strive for excellence in bringing children with impaired hearing to understand and to be understood in spoken language.

St Gabriel’s believes that speech is the birthright of every child and provides its services without regard to race, religion, gender or financial circumstances.

Our Services

“Hear the Children” Early Intervention Centre

Our Early Intervention Centre provides an Auditory-Verbal Therapy program for babies and young children aged 0-5 years who are fitted with hearing aids or cochlear implants. Parents and therapist work together as partners. We value parents as their child’s primary language teachers, recognizing that young children learn their language most naturally in meaningful interactions. We teach them to listen and speak so that they can communicate with their family and friends and the wider community.

“Hear the Children” Distance Education Program

Our Distance Education Program is available to isolated or remotely located families in NSW who wish to access our Auditory-Verbal Program for their hearing impaired child.

School Program

For those children who have not yet reached the stage where they are able to attend a regular school, St Gabriel’s School for Hearing Impaired Children offers an auditory/oral education from kindergarten to year 10 for hearing impaired children across Sydney.
Our objective is to see these students included in regular classes in neighbourhood schools as confident, independent learners. Many of our students spend one half day per week in a regular school and when they are ready, their integration time is increased.
