Practice strengths

  • Family law
  • Property settlement
  • Divorce
  • Children’s issues

Biography

Celia Oosterhoff joined the Coleman & Greig family law team in 2007. Since her admission as a solicitor in 2003, she has worked both in the Sydney CBD and Western Sydney and has practised primarily in the area of Family law since the beginning of 2006.

With experience in all areas of family law, Celia has a particular interest in property settlement matters. She believes that effective negotiation and realistic advice from the outset are the keys to achieving satisfying results for her clients. She also ensures that her clients receive timely, accurate and cost-effective legal advice throughout their case.

If negotiation is unsuccessful in a particular matter, Celia has considerable litigation experience, having appeared in the Federal Magistrates Court, Family Court, Local Court and District Court, and can successfully represent her clients’ interests.

In addition to her family law experience, Celia has dealt extensively with debt recovery and other matters such as Wills & Estate issues which can often arise in relation to family law. For example, Celia assisted a family law client to secure a victory in the District Court which will ensure the ongoing provision of financial benefits to children following the death of a parent.

Celia studied Law and Arts at the University of New South Wales and was awarded Bachelor degrees in both disciplines in 2001. After graduating, Celia worked for a large international commercial law firm in Amsterdam in the areas of Mergers & Acquisitions and Commercial Finance. Following this, she worked as Legal Associate to the Honourable Justice Ellis and the Honourable Justice Boland of the Appeal Division of the Family Court of Australia.

Celia also provides volunteer advice at a local community legal centre, and periodically writes head notes for family law cases for inclusion in a law reporting series. She also has a strong interest in international and human rights law.
